Imagery

"There was a sound like running fingernails across the grain of corduroy and a whaking sound. The crack of gunfire followed..." -page 68

This is a great example of imagery. Experienced writers often use imagey to place a distint picture into the reader's head to allow them to feel apart of the book. It also allows the reader to feel more involved. For example when I read this I could actually hear this i my head. And it scared me to read "crack of gunfire.." because I feel so apart of the story. And this is just one literary element of writing!
