This reminds me of the soldiers of today. And how many of them come home emotionally and psychologically scarred forever. Some are even drastically changed. After seeing so much death and destruction, one becomes immune to it. Just as you might become immune to a sickness placed in a vaccine, it no longer has any lasting effect on you.
